Cypress.io, an Atlanta-based startup that offers automated testing for applications in web browsers, has completed a $9 million Series A round, led by previous investor Bessemer Venture Partners.

The funding comes almost a year to the day after the startup announced it completed a $4 million seed round from BVP and Las Olas Venture Capital. The funding will primarily be used to continue the growth and expansion the company started with its seed round, with a focus on cross-browser testing, test analytics, code coverage, component testing, enhanced errors, built-in test retries, Github integration and more. The company is also hiring for new positions.

In addition to the funding, the startup welcomed investor Mike Droesch from BVP and Jason Warner, SVP of engineering at Github, to its board of directors, according to a blog post written by Cypress.io CEO Drew Lanham. Former CEO of Heroku Adam Gross also joined the team as an investor and advisor.

Last year, Lanham told Atlanta Inno that Cypress.io is one of the earliest stage companies Bessemer Venture Partners has ever invested with in Atlanta. He said the inclusion of one of the top five venture capitalists firms in the country in the round was a win for Atlanta. Cypress.io is part of the state’s tech incubator, ATDC, signature program.

“My hope is that we are a category defining company and part of a strong development platform in Atlanta,” he said. “Hopefully this will be the start of something new in Atlanta.”

In a blog post last year, Droesch and Bob Goodman of BVP said they chose to invest in the startup because of the Cypress.io team's strength and passion and the love these previous developers had for the company's product.

"At Bessemer, we have long been fans of developer-centric businesses, and we have published many of our thoughts on the space, including our eight laws of developer platforms," they wrote. "Cypress.io is a rare business that checks all eight boxes, and excels across many dimensions. This all starts with a product that delivers a delightful and intuitive user experience, runs tests dramatically faster than incumbent products, and is more reliable than any other test automation framework."

Since the VC firm's first investment, Cypress.io has grown to serving users from 90 countries who have downloaded Cypress.io over 15 million times. Their client list includes large tech corporations such as Slack, Netflix, SendGrid, GitHub, FanDuel, Lego, SaltStack and GoDaddy.
