Cypress.io, an Atlanta-based startup that offers automated testing for applications in web browsers, has completed a $4 million round of seed funding.

The round was co-led by Las Olas Venture Capital and Bessemer Venture Partners. Previous investors Tech Square Ventures, BLH Ventures and Buckhead Partners also contributed to the round.

Cypress.io is part of the state's tech incubator, ATDC, signature program. The startup helps developers building websites at companies like Crunchbase test their code, according to CEO Drew Lanham. Other customers include Betterment, GitHub, Kiwi, NASA, The New York Times, Slack and Shopify.

"As they write the code, they write the test at the same time and they get to use the test over and over again to see if it’s working enough," he said.

The company will largely use the fund to expand in engineering, marketing, sales business development, and the general promotion of Cypress.io, Lanham said. The firm currently employs under 15 people at their Midtown office in ATDC and caters to clients worldwide, he said. Lanham said the funding would be used to add additional employees, but did not have a projected number of how many.

"Atlanta is fantastic from a talent perspective and a cost space perspective," he said. "I think it's incredible that we’re able to attract top tier venture capitalists."

According to Lanham, Cypress.io is one of the earliest stage companies Bessemer Venture Partners has ever invested in Atlanta. He said the inclusion of one of the top five venture capitalists firms in the country in the round was a win for Atlanta.

"My hope is that we are a category defining company and part of a strong development platform in Atlanta," he said. "Hopefully this will be the start of something new in Atlanta."
