The “In Their Own Words” series is a collection of short columns from startup founders in Atlanta’s tech ecosystem. After a year of uncertainty and unrest, Atlanta Inno wanted to give founders the chance to reflect on 2020 and share goals for the new year.

Umama Kibria is the founder and CEO of SweatPack, a fitness web app that allows people to sign up for sports leagues and fitness classes with a group of friends or strangers.

Our team at SweatPack is ready to conquer the new age of fitness in 2021.

Contrary to how digital fitness was positioned early in 2020, the Consumer Trends 2021 report shows that 76% of people have switched to exercising at home, which suggests that virtual on-demand fitness is here to stay.

Throughout 2020 we’ve seen customers experiment with several complimentary fitness tools to meet their fitness goals, forcing the traditional gym membership to become unbundled. Customers are searching for tactics to combine both sweating and socializing in their lives and won't be merely restricted by a monetary budget.

In 2021, SweatPack will continue to support gyms, trainers and our community members in adapting to this shift in the market.

In 2020, over $1 billion was invested in digital fitness, according to Fitt Insider. Big tech players like Apple and Amazon also made investments that demonstrated the need for innovation and agility in the rapidly changing fitness tech industry.

Similar to how video streaming platforms have unbundled the TV business model, in 2021, we should expect traditional gym-goers to invest in several digital fitness platforms and complimentary fitness services.

SweatPack’s 2021 goal is to continue enabling that transformation. Corporate wellness will continue to grow, and SweatPack is positioned to provide value to companies as an employee social engagement and retention tool during remote working.

SweatPack recognizes that delivering high-quality experiences is a necessity to garner trust in a highly competitive landscape. We’ll continue focusing our efforts on delivering an experience that drives brand loyalty. Because of our 6-week team model, we have a natural marketing engine that brings referrals, lowers acquisition costs and creates lifetime value.

SweatPack is here to serve our community as they build healthy consistent habits that fuel their wellness ecosystem — mental, physical, and social. As our SweatPack members look to fitness as their social activity for the week, we’re here to help them connect with their friends, co-workers and community.

We’ll continue to partner with our hosts to help bring them volume and consistency with memberships to help them bounce back.
