The “In Their Own Words” series is a collection of short columns from startup founders in Atlanta’s tech ecosystem. After a year of uncertainty and unrest, Atlanta Inno wanted to give founders the chance to reflect on 2020 and share goals for the new year.

Angela Fusaro is the CEO and founder of Physician 360, a health technology startup that aims to reimagine urgent and emergency care with its telemedicine platform and at-home test kits.

For most people, a component of happiness is doing meaningful work. And for most people, the way we know we are doing meaningful work is through external acts of appreciation. To keep morale high, it is not sufficient to feel gratitude. You must express gratitude.

Leadership is about always giving your team the benefit of the doubt, believing that at every moment they are trying their best, including ourselves as founders. Sometimes your best or their best is not enough for what the situation requires, but that is normal. You have to have humility and courage to recognize that and adjust accordingly.

Bravery is rewarded. Being positioned and ready to take calculated risks as well as parlay expertise and infrastructure into COVID-19 allowed us to play a meaningful role in the pandemic response.

We had to get comfortable with trying to hit a moving target. There were so many hiccups — supply chain, regulatory changes, virus exposure and team morale. You have to really think through how that reality is communicated to your customers so expectations can be managed.

We are currently working with a network of over 1,000 independent community pharmacies and have partnerships with large grocery chains like Giant Foods and Big Y. We will continue to expand that network until we offer the most comprehensive safety net of care centers in the country.

Additionally, we are rolling out some innovative products: from an ear infection test kit (so you never have to drag your screaming child to the office again) to a telemedicine platform that is helpful to those aging in place.
