10G news: Comcast rolls out internet speeds faster than a gig to residents and businesses in Deming, Portales and Taos

10G news: Comcast – submitted by advertiser
Nearly 20,000 homes and businesses now have access to this ultra-fast speed tier that allows users to download an HD movie in just a few minutes, update a smartphone’s operating system in seconds and join videoconferences with ultra-high-definition video.

It wouldn’t be a stretch to imagine this scenario inside a household of five in today’s digital world. Mom has a telehealth appointment to go over recent test results with her doctor. Dad is working from home and needs to download a batch of documents to his laptop. The oldest son wants to play an online video game with players from across the world. His sister has been told to upload the photos from her iPhone to the cloud. Meanwhile, their brother has plans to stream a 4K movie with his friends.

And they all want to do this at the same time.

For residents of Deming, Portales and Taos, this is now possible with Comcast’s expansion of The Xfinity 10G network, which offers internet speeds of up to 1.2 gigabits per second (Gbps). Nearly 20,000 homes and businesses in those communities now have access to this ultra-fast speed tier that allows users to download an HD movie in just a few minutes, update a smartphone’s operating system in seconds and join videoconferences with ultra-high-definition video.

“Our network is made for anything, so you can do anything,” said Chris Dunkeson, Area Vice President for Comcast in New Mexico. “My own family members are working, learning, chatting, watching movies or playing games online whenever we are in the house. I know others have the same experience. Comcast’s investments in our network will keep more people in New Mexico securely connected and ensure they have the technology today to meet the needs of tomorrow.”

Benefits beyond speed for residents and businesses

The benefits of Xfinity for residents and businesses go beyond faster speeds. Xfinity’s comprehensive connectivity experience combines a powerful network built to deliver internet reliably and securely, with cutting-edge hardware and software.

Reliability

According to Comcast, next-generation Xfinity gateways deliver the most advanced Wi-Fi technology, Wi-Fi 6E, with three times more bandwidth to power hundreds of devices, gigabit speeds over Wi-Fi, and ultra-low latency for responses with minimal delays for those moments when response times matter most. “xFi Pods” extend coverage to hard-to-reach areas of the home when needed.

Security

xFi Advanced Security — included free for customers who lease an Xfinity gateway — protects connected devices from malware and other threats at the gateway before they reach devices and the household members who are using them. Xfinity has stopped billions of cybersecurity threats since introducing the service a few years ago, according to Comcast.

Xfinity internet service is delivered using Comcast’s existing network architecture and the connections that are already in most homes and businesses. There will be no digging up yards or sidewalks as Comcast continues to expand access to its 10G network.

According to global network intelligence and connectivity insights leader Ookla’s Speedtest Intelligence, Xfinity was the fastest fixed broadband provider in 14 states, including New Mexico, during the fourth quarter of 2022, based on consumer testing.

Benefits for local businesses

For local businesses, Comcast Business offers a suite of connectivity, communications, networking, cybersecurity, wireless and managed solutions to help organizations of different sizes prepare for what’s next. Powered by its multi-gig speed broadband network, and backed by around-the-clock customer support, Comcast Business provides services to small and mid-size businesses across the country and is one of the leading service providers to the enterprise market.

Comcast Business has been consistently recognized by industry analysts and associations as a leader and innovator, and one of the fastest-growing providers of ethernet services.

Digital equity commitment

Comcast also is addressing digital equity in the communities it serves through Project UP, the company’s $1 billion dollar commitment to help tens of millions of people connect to the internet and build futures of unlimited possibilities. In the last three years, Comcast has invested more than $13.5 million in more than 75 nonprofit and community organizations across New Mexico.

Comcast, for example, joined two community partners earlier this year to surprise more than 200 students and families in Albuquerque with free laptops.

Additionally, Comcast will continue to bring affordable, high-speed internet to low-income households through Internet Essentials. Since 2011, the program has connected more than 10 million Americans, including 412,000 New Mexicans.

Comcast also proudly participates in the federal Affordable Connectivity Program, which provides a subsidy of up to $30 per month — up to $75 per month in tribal areas — to pay for internet service, covering the full cost of both Internet Essentials and Internet Essentials Plus for eligible households. Interested customers can visit Xfinity.com/ACP or call 1-800-Xfinity to learn more about this program and find out if they qualify.

“Comcast is committed to connecting more people to what matters most to them,” said Dunkeson. “We’re excited to bring additional internet options to consumers and businesses on our fast, reliable, secure network. Whether it’s for work, school or entertainment, our fiber-rich, gigabit network is built to meet the needs of tomorrow — today.”
