An Albuquerque-based aerospace startup working on a solar-powered propulsion technology was tapped for a global space accelerator program.

Space Kinetic joins 13 other startups as part of the Amazon Web Services 2023 Space Accelerator cohort. That accelerator is a four-week program offering technical and business mentorship, collaboration opportunities and up to $100,000 in credits for an Amazon Web Services membership program.

The New Mexico company is developing an electromechanical propulsion system that uses solar power. The technology could help power a cislunar logistics network in the future, according to Amazon Web Services' accelerator announcement.

One of Space Kinetic's co-founders and current CEO, Scott Ziegler, was a recent New Mexico Lab Embedded Entrepreneur Program (LEEP) Fellow. Space Kinetic declined to comment for this article.

The Amazon Web Services accelerator, which begins in May, ends with a "demo day" held in San Francisco on July 19. Most of the cohort companies are headquartered in the U.S., with two based in Europe.
