TriCore Reference Laboratories has opened a new facility in Las Cruces that will bring jobs and faster medical testing to southern New Mexico.

The nonprofit clinical laboratory headquartered in Albuquerque announced the opening of its new Southern Clinical Laboratory in New Mexico's second-largest city. It's located at 2525 South Telshor Blvd.

The new laboratory brings a suite of testing services to Las Cruces, including PCR testing for Covid-19. Patients can schedule appointments online or walk-in for lab services. It also means patients and practitioners throughout southern New Mexico can receive results faster as they no longer have to wait for results from TriCore's Albuquerque lab, said Beth Bailey, the company's director of strategic development and communications.

Certain tests will even have same-day results, according to a news release from TriCore.

TriCore's Patient Care Center in Las Cruces, which opened in May, moved to the same building as the Southern Clinical Laboratory. The building is 3,500 square feet, split evenly between lab and patient care center space, Bailey said.

The company hired eight new laboratory professionals to staff the Southern Clinical Laboratory, Bailey said. The Patient Care Center has six phlebotomist positions that will now work out of the new Telshor location, as well.

TriCore was founded in 1998 as a collaboration between Presbyterian Healthcare Services and the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. It provides "local, high-quality medical laboratory testing," the company's CEO Robin Divine said.

"Our new Southern Clinical Laboratory brings the same quality, convenience and speed to southern New Mexico, and we will continue to explore ways to serve the region through this new facility," Divine said.
