Supporters of New Mexico United will have a new app to use when buying, selling or transferring tickets to United matches next year.
SeatGeek today announced a partnership with New Mexico United to become the official ticketing partner for the United Soccer League team. Starting next season, ticket purchases, transfers and sales to other fans for New Mexico United games at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park in Albuquerque will go through the SeatGeek platform and mobile app.
"I think [this partnership] shows a level of maturity of our company," said Ron Patel, New Mexico United's chief business officer. "We're at a point now where we've had so many fans engage with us at our games that we feel like we've got to give them the best possible service that's out there."
SeatGeek has focused on expanding into the soccer market, said Jake Kearns, senior manager of strategic partnerships at SeatGeek.
United is the fifth USL team that SeatGeek has partnered with. It also has ticketing partnerships with seven Major League Soccer clubs in the U.S. and over half of the 20 English Premier League teams.
Using SeatGeek's ticketing platform will make buying, selling and transferring tickets to New Mexico United games more efficient for fans, Patel said. People who have bought tickets can transfer them through just a couple of buttons, he said, and season ticket holders that aren't able to attend particular games can sell those tickets quickly through the platform.
"It allows us to sell tickets easier," Patel said. "But even more importantly it allows us to service our ticket holders better because the technology is what I feel is the best in the world."
Ticket sales make up the largest portion of New Mexico United's revenue, Patel said.
SeatGeek had been working with New Mexico United for over a year before the partnership was officially announced, Kearns said.
"They have built an amazing brand in the New Mexico community," he said. "For us to be able to bring some of our e-commerce and marketing expertise to bear alongside of them will hopefully get even more folks engaged with their products."
New Mexico United currently plays its home games at the shared Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park in Albuquerque. The club had a $50 million bond proposal for their own stadium in Albuquerque rejected in a referendum last November. Patel said The United is still in the process of finding a place to construct its own permanent home.
The club did build a new merchandise fulfillment center in Albuquerque this year.
This story has been updated to clarify that New Mexico United ticket sales make up the largest portion of the team's revenue.
