New Mexico Technology Council chose Mia Petersen as its new executive director.
Petersen said she was previously senior learning and development manager for Rural Sourcing and, before that, executive team lead in human resources at Target.
She succeeds Deborah Breitfeld, who was appointed in June 2018 to lead the New Mexico Technology Council. The industry organization focuses on fostering tech activity with professional and workforce development along with advocacy.
Breitfeld was unable to be reached for immediate comment.
Mary Tieman, community relations and membership development director for the New Mexico Technology Council, confirmed that Petersen started on April 11.
A post on Petersen's LinkedIn page says her role at Rural Sourcing, which is based in Atlanta and has an office in Downtown Albuquerque, “taught me more than I ever thought possible.”
“I can’t wait to see where this new chapter of my career will take me,” her post continues.
The announcement of Petersen's hire came days before the council’s Women in Technology Awards event, set to be held Thursday at the Marriott Albuquerque in Uptown Albuquerque.
A membership directory on New Mexico Technology Council’s website lists 164 members in varying industries, from national like Amazon Web Services and Comcast all the way down to local firms like Solstar Space Co. and Build With Robots.
