Soon, a major port in the Southeast may be buzzing with Albuquerque-based Go-Station Inc.'s electric-vehicle charging platform.

In the coming months, Go-Station expects to break ground on EV charging for passenger vehicles and larger trucks at the Port of Savannah in Savannah, Georgia, which processed 38.4 million tons of cargo in 2020. The company's charging stations are already available in Albuquerque at the Winrock Town Center in Uptown. But Go-Station could serve a different type of customer at the Port of Savannah.

As part of the expansion, a charging site will be located at the Port Fuel Center, a truck stop that sits near the port. For Go-Station, which has been working with customers that depend on foot traffic — office buildings, residential developments and retail space — it represents a potential opportunity in the commercial and fleet support space.

In an interview with Business First, Go-Station president and CEO Andrew Hisey categorized Go-Station's expansion plan as “a hub and spoke" concept where the initial goal is to connect larger metro areas with EV charging infrastructure. After that, the company would then focus on more rural markets.

Go-Station offers different types of chargers — L2 240V and DC fast chargers — as well as a mobile app. The startup owns and operates its own charging stations in addition to allowing clients to own and operate the equipment.

Hisey declined to disclose funding details for Go-Station, though he did say the company has years worth of capital at its disposal. The company currently has five employees, he added.

Albuquerque engineering firm Sierra Peaks was contracted to integrate different parts for the charging tech, whereas local data sciences firm RS21 was enlisted to develop a tool for identifying ideal locations for the EV chargers, Hisey and RS21 president and CEO Charles Rath previously told Business First.
