The University of New Mexico will partner with New York City tech education organization Fullstack Academy to offer continuing education courses in cybersecurity, data analytics and development and operations.
The programs are designed for people who have little to no technical background and aim to prepare them for joining New Mexico's tech sector, according to the university. Programs range in length from 12 to 26 weeks for part-time or full-time enrollees and cost about $12,000.
Three types of tech boot camps are being offered online:
- A "cyber boot camp" will teach students how to monitor and secure networks and applications as well as respond to breaches. Applications are due March 8, 2022, for the part-time cohort (26 weeks) and May 2, 2022 for the full-time cohort (12 weeks).
- A "data analytics boot camp" will instruct students on data visualization along with programming in Python and database work in SQL. Applications for the part-time program are due June 27, 2022.
- A "DevOps boot camp" offers instruction in various types of skills including automation and Python programming. Applications are due by April 5, 2022 for the part-time program.
People may apply through UNM's website.
As part of the partnership, Fullstack Academy will offer scholarships to active military personnel, veterans, students and others. A $1,500 scholarship is also available to everyone that enrolls in the inaugural boot camps, according to UNM. In addition to partnering with universities to offer tech instruction, Fullstack also has a campus located in New York City along with online schooling.
Through the CNM Ingenuity nonprofit, Central New Mexico Community College also offers tech boot camps locally at a price tag of between about $7,500 and $10,000.
