San Diego-based engineering company ATA Engineering Inc. recently opened a new office in Uptown Albuquerque.

The company says it has maintained a presence in New Mexico since its founding in 2000 but that a new, permanent space will allow it to boost its regional support for its operations in the aerospace, defense and energy sectors. It will also seek to provide continued engineering support to the state's national laboratories, of which there are two.

ATA Engineering announced the move in June.

Director of New Mexico Operations James Freymiller will lead the office and oversee a plan to grow the company’s presence in the area, according to the company. The office is located at 6001 Indian School Road NE.

“The opening of our New Mexico office reflects ATA’s recent achievements and long-term commitment to providing exceptional local support to our customers,” ATA Vice President and General Manager Tom Deiters said in a prepared statement. “ATA’s permanent presence in Albuquerque demonstrates our continued growth in the key markets and industries that we serve."

A representative for the company was unable to be reached for immediate comment.

ATA provides a wealth of engineering services including acoustics, drop and shock tests, robotics and prototype development. It is also reseller for Siemens Digital Industries' software packages with SolAero Technologies and LoadPath in Albuquerque as two of its software-related clients and partners, according to its website.

ATA has additional offices in California's Bay Area, Los Angeles, Denver, Alabama and the nation's capital, where it recently announced a relocation to accommodate its growth. The company has been awarded $5.7 million for work with the government during the past year, mainly in the field of research and development for the physical, engineering and life sciences, according to government data.
