An Albuquerque tech company recently nabbed a huge contract with Sandia National Laboratories. The deal is worth an estimated $400 million at the low end, with a potential estimated value as high as $700 million.

Encantado Technical Solutions, is a joint venture between Maryland technology and professional services company Edgewater and ECS, a large company in Virginia providing a range of technical, scientific and engineering services. Encantado's newly awarded contract will span up to seven years with a five-year base term.

The purchase agreement was awarded by National Technology and Engineering Solutions of Sandia, which manages and operates the labs, to provide information technology support for personnel and infrastructure, according to a release from Encantado.

"The source selection team was concerned with striking the most advantageous balance between technical features, price and identified risk, which the Encantado proposal did," Sandia subcontract manager Alex Riebli said in a statement.

The award replaces a number of other subcontracts that are set to expire in April, Sandia spokeswoman Manette Fisher wrote in an email to Business First. It is the largest subcontract issued by Sandia to date, she said.

The agreement includes servicing about 25,000 telephones and 30,000 "user devices," as well as delivering "end-user service to 30,000 computing devices," a release from Sandia says. The subcontract's services include operating, maintaining and servicing Sandia's telephone, wired communications, wireless communications and mobile platforms, according to Sandia.

"We are honored to be selected for this small business award. Edgewater will leverage our deep institutional knowledge and experience with the Department of Energy and our strong partnership with industry leader ECS to deliver world-class [information technology] services," said Edgewater President Dave Yockman in a statement.

Encantado was organized as a company in New Mexico in February 2020, according to the New Mexico Secretary of State. It provides a range of information technology and cybersecurity services, in addition to systems engineering and artificial intelligence. It has an office in Uptown, according to its website.

The company also plans to form a nonprofit that will promote local and regional development programs related to science, technology, engineering and math. It will also expand the area's digital workforce with training and other opportunities, its release says.
